Power Rankings – Mid Sept. 2023

Art’s Fudge Power Rankings continue for 7th time this season. This unique list combines the FPO and MPO divisions based on player power within fantasy rankings. Power is derived from multiple data points, and often weighted toward how a player is positioned, within their tier, for the upcoming month’s elite tournaments.

Last month’s Power Rankings were geared almost exclusively toward the World Championships. And this month is weighted heavily toward MVP Open at Maple Hill, the final fantasy event in 2023 for standard leagues (season and re-draft). This will not however be the final Power Rankings of the season. Some leagues will play the upcoming Majors and DGPT Championship (Elite). Next month’s Power Rankings will be set for that championship.

In the next 4 weeks, the pros will play:

  • Maple Hill – semi playoffs (Elite)
  • USWDGC – FPO only (Major)
  • Carolina Clash (prominent A tier)
  • USDGC – MPO only (Major)
  • Throw Pink Championship – FPO only (Major like, same week and course as USDGC)

FPO plays up to 4 events, while MPO plays up to 3 total. Most FPO are playing just the three Elite / Major events, while most MPO are playing just the two. AF truly thinks of Throw Pink as a Major event, though acknowledges the PDGA designation of XA tier. Throw Pink does have stronger field for FPO than the European Open did, but not as strong as other Majors in 2023. USWDGC has the strongest FPO, even more so than Worlds.

The top 10 to 15 in both divisions has become very strong here down the stretch. The 2nd tier players on the list below are such powered stars that it would surprise very few if any of those names are the winner of Maple Hill, especially considering the MPO defending champ for Maple Hill (Lizotte) is on this tier.

See our Color Guide for helpful info on these lists. Color for the Majors in 2023 column are depicting the events played. Light green is showing those who have played Champions Cup, European Open and Worlds. Dark green shows those who played Champs and Worlds. Light tan is for those who played EurO and World. And light purple is for those who only played Worlds.
