Event Rankings: Top 75 MPO for Texas State Championships

Post event update: This was a rougher week for AF after doing relatively well with MPO predictions at the Austin event. Our Waco predictions from a few weeks ago remain the low point of the season in terms of our trying to make accurate projections. We intend to keep it that way. Please see the previous post event update for Austin for the criteria we use to assess accuracy. Here are the results for our predictions at Texas State:

What’s below is what we published before the event started.

Art’s Fudge (AF) makes its 4th attempt at event predictions for MPO in 2024, this time projecting the top 75, in order, at the upcoming Elite event, in Texas. Our goal is to get 20% accuracy for each of the 75 we have in order on the list below. Our hope is these rankings inform fantasy disc golf participants as well as entertain fans of the pro tour.

The event predictions are truly meant to be viewed as simple list, depicting projected order they’ll finish from 1 through 75, along with their AF latest ranking (updated earlier this week), then player name, rating, and actual place they end up at 2024 Texas State.

We’ve learned to predict ties in standings as they happen at every disc golf Open event. We highlight names of players who have historically done well at the event (green) or not so well (red). Yellow highlight means they’ve averaged top 5 in past 5 years of playing. Red text on player name indicates it is their first time playing the tournament in past 5 years. Purple text means they’ve played once in past 5 years and finished outside top 40. Green text on name indicates they were top 5 at Texas State in 2023. Calvin Heimburg is the defending champion. Ricky Wysocki has finished 1st place in his 3 times playing this event in past 5 years.

Colors are adding in layers of added information, that get long winded in the details. Here is recent link to where we last went into details on our color scheme, pertaining to this list. 

Of the 50 or so MPO in the field that are playing, but not part of our list, there are 3 types of players in that mix. Some are ones we rank who are outside top 75, and saved as a sort of waiting list in case others on the list drop from the event. The 2nd type are players who we are tracking, but are not quite fantasy relevant. They could be by the next event, and we will continue to monitor them. The 3rd type are lower rated players who may surprise many and do well at the event, though typically over 3 rounds of elite level play, they tend to settle near the bottom of the standings. Our hope is to rank them someday. With that said:
