quick color guide

Post event update: Just what the Proctor ordered. Entering MVP Open at Maple Hill, we ranked James Proctor as 36th best in division and picked to finish 24th in this tournament. Instead, he sinks a drop zone putt on 18, for a most fortunate win in semi-finals of DGPT playoffs. He moves up to 13th position in DGPT points. Ricky and Buhr tied at 3rd to remain firmly among top 2 in pretty much all rankings for 2024 season. McBeth took 2nd and bumped up 2 spots to 6th in DGPT standings.

Our event predictions for MPO at 2024 Maple Hill were not so good. We did adjust our accuracy scale (making it tighter / harder), and to be well off or worse on 2 of our top 3 predictions is not something we do often and indicates a rough week for making predictions. Here is the quick rundown:

  • 14% of our picks (6 of 44) were spot on, with none of them being exact matches
  • 32% of our picks (14 of 44) were semi-close or better to being accurate (yellow and green combined)
  • 36% of our picks were well off, or worse
  • Which means around 32% were in the middle of those two (orange)

Essentially we split the 3 types of predictions, when our goal is to have 45% be semi-close or better.

Next up USDGC and Throw Pink in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Our hope is these rankings inform fantasy disc golf participants as well as entertain fans of the pro tour.

Simplicity

The event predictions are truly meant to be viewed as simple list, depicting projected order they’ll finish from 1 through 45, along with their AF latest ranking (updated earlier this week), then player name, rating, and actual place they end up at 2024 MVP Open.

Our 2024 early season goal aims for 20% accuracy with correct predictions, and 45% accuracy for guesses that are within a tier of being correct.

Meets Nuances

Color in the list explains other relevant information that added columns might make rather boring. This includes tier the player current resides, historical performance at the event, and player value relative to their rating and ranking for the event. After the event, in the actual place column, we use color to depict how close or well off our predictions were. For more details on color, please see our Event Rankings Guide.

As for the Rest

Our approach is to track and rank all fantasy relevant players. Of the 25 or so MPO in the field that are playing, but not part of our list, there is (for playoffs) just 1 type of player in that mix. Those are ones we rank who are outside top 45, and saved as a sort of waiting list in case others on the list drop from the event. All players in this event are ones that we do rank. With that said:
